Satellite Communications Technician
The Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Technician provides operational & maintenance support for satellite-based and terrestrial telecommunication systems terminals CONUS and OCONUS.
SATCOM Technicians provide in-depth technical support in: RF system maintenance, IP network operation, audio and video operation, presentation and maintenance with a special interest on satellite communications. An ideal candidate possesses a good working knowledge of satellite communications to include but not limited to basic satellite theory, link analysis, antenna performance, modulation/demodulation techniques, digital signal processing, multiple access techniques, video transmission and TCP/IP techniques.
Workplace:
TBD-Training takes place in Gilbert, Arizona; assignment locations vary.
Primary responsibilities:
Performing satellite station maintenance and operations
Specific duties include:
- Equipment rack layout and antenna systems documentation
- Configuration Management including maintaining inventory assets
- Accomplishment of regular preventative and corrective system maintenance
- Working with hand and power tools
- Climbing ladders and antenna support structures (under 40′)
- Tracking logistics shipments and return of RMAs
- Preparing of feed line and waveguide connection and terminations
- Installation and fabrication of conduit
- Soldering connections with a high degree of proficiency
- Using Digital Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Power Supplies, Power Meters, Signal Strength Meters, Couplers, Attenuators, Dummy Loads and Spectrum Analyzers
- Maintain worksite in a safe and organized manner
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Security Clearance Needed:
- Secret Clearance
- Must be a US Citizen with current eligibility within JPAS
Requirements for the position are:
- Secret Clearance is necessary for eligibility
- Minimum of 2 years satellite communications transmission/reception, RF handling, link budget analysis, space segment frequency analysis and recovery experience in broadcast, data and VOIP
- Associate Degree in Electronics Communications, Information Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, satellite communications or equivalent Military training in satellite communication activities
- Ability to maintain and troubleshoot satellite equipment
- Ability to maintain and operate satellite RF and transportable equipment remotely and in very remote locations
- Self-motivated
- Self-reliant for interface with customer and prioritization of daily work
- Ability to schedule required travel and operate independently
- Excellent verbal and writing skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
- Solution-oriented with the ability to resolve system problems and manage customer expectations
- Understanding of Audio and Visual Broadcast equipment in High Definition Standards
- IT Networking troubleshooting in a TCP/IP environment using primarily Cisco equipment
- Valid US State Driver’s license
- Valid US Passport
Travel Requirement:
Employee must be willing to work rotational 90-day deployments to various OCONUS sites. Work schedule will be 3 months deployed followed by 2 months home. During home time, the employee will report to Company Headquarters remotely.
Preferences
- 4+ years’ experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering related industry
- Former Military Experience
- FCC licensing, Commercial Radio or Amateur Radio Experience
Compensation
- Salary commensurate with experience (yearly salary is distributed evenly over 24 pay periods)
